Locations:
there's a place for everything!
Other pages on this site show you how
to photograph.
In this section, we talk about photo locations, in other words, where to take
pictures,
and the unique surprises (good and bad) each of the photography
locations holds for us.
It will always be true that you don't have to travel far to
enjoy
fascinating subject matter for your macro photography. It is
also true that some subjects can only be found in certain places. Your
approach to photographing will change based on where you happen to be.
So pack your camera bag and
let's get this show on the road!
First, here's a list of the pages in this Photo Locations
section:
- Want to set up a corner of home or office to
photograph small things under controlled conditions? Learn how at Studio
Photography.
- Taking your studio photography show on the
road: The
Portable Photo Studio.
- How to prepare yourself, and your gear, for
photography in the wide open spaces: Outdoor
Photography.
- Where sea meets sand there are unique and
fascinating photo opportunities. Learn more at Beach
Photography.

No one needs to travel far to find great macro
photography subjects. Anyone with curiosity and an
inquisitive eye will find subjects for close-up photography
everywhere.
Having
said that, sometimes you have to get away from a familiar world to
allow creativity to flow. Let's face it, many of us are going places
anyway, be it for business or pleasure. Great photography locations are
everywhere!
Going out "on location" is a certain cure for anyone at risk of falling
into a creative rut. No doubt there are many
can't-miss photo locations close to where you're sitting right now.
City
parks, industrial sites, farms, fields, railroad stations, public art
displays,
open-air markets, are just a few photo locations that never fail to
turn up
photographic gold.

Many photographers gravitate toward areas where
nature
intersects and overlaps with the hand of humankind. Even places where
nary a bush or flower grows contain hints of the natural world (think
farmer's markets in an urban setting, where nature's bounty
concentrates in a dazzling display). And no matter where you go, there
is light, which can be turned into the subject of some pretty
incredible photographs.
Going out to find good macro photography locations
requires a bit of planning. Not just where to go, but what to take
along.
We know we need a camera and lenses. Consider also the
importance of a good camera bag, one that carries a lot without
weighing you down!
We'll talk about what to pack in order to have the
most technical and creative flexibility in your close-up photography,
while
avoiding excess weight that makes for a long and tiring day.
Once your camera bag is equipped, you'll be able to hit the road on a
moment's notice!

Of
course the topic of where to photograph includes staying close to home
or office. For ultimate control, nothing beats a customized photo
studio. Studio photography equipment is not required to be portable
unless you want it to be!
Once again, here are the topics we'll cover in this photo locations
section:
So go ahead! Get out there and make some memorable images!
